This was another rough video to get and something is wrong with the speedometer and we got chased by the cop afterward....which I didn't catch on tape......I'm sorry. However, this is one hell of a car and it really only has a little over 26000 miles on the original engine. The Paint job and a new radio is the only restoration. The 1979 Z28 Camaro: The second generation Chevrolet Camaro was introduced in February of 1970 and lasted until 1982. The second generation was styled after several European car including Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Ferrari. The second Camaro was engineered much like the first with a unibody structure utilizing a front subframe, A-arm and coil spring front suspension, and rear leaf springs. Although it kept similar designs from the first generation, the second Camaro profited from a much higher budget and was designed with higher quality parts and a better driver experience. By the mid 1970s the Camaro grew less powerful, like many other cars of the time, due to the tightening emissions regulations and a fuel crisis. The 1979 Z28s came with a front spoiler and fender flares to match the Pontiac Trans Am, and "Z28" decals that ran from the beginning of the front flares to the bottoms of the doors. The Z-28 model was powered by a 5.7 liter V8 engine with a 4V carb producing 175 hp and 270 ft/lbs of torque. Sales for 1979 were the highest ever for any generation Camaro ever with a total of 282571 sold.

1980 Chevrolet Camaros are easy to find but not an original Z28 with a manual gearbox. This Camaro is powered by the original 350ci V8 with 4 barrel carburetor and 4 speed manual transmission the original rear end houses the factory 3.08:1 rear gear. This car has spent its entire life in the southeasts mild climate. The odometer reads at 59050 original miles. Verifying this Z28 is easy as a build sheet shows exactly what the car is. Dyno sheet: mentalsocket.com Build info: mentalsocket.com Completely stock TPI 5.7 (except for injectors and a Megasquirt) with a single T70 ebay turbo on the dyno at Panhandle Performance in Panama City, Fl. Final uncorrected 264.3 rwhp @ 4364 and 332.8 rwtq @ 3901 On the first and only dyno pull, we ran into three problems! Fuel pressure dropped, AFR climbed to 13.0 at full boost (prompting early shutdown) and it boosted well beyond the 9.5 I normally see - almost 13 psi. Because I only run 9 psi, anything over 10 psi drops the timing to 12-13 degrees and I add in a lot of fuel to compensate for over-boost in case of wastegate failure, etc. The dyno configuration put more of a load on the car than it normally sees, and the result of the loading was the wastegate was unable to release enough exhaust pressure to keep the boost down. This was just a shakedown run and we hadn't set up the detent cable for WOT without downshifting, so the torque peak occurred later than it should have since we couldn't go WOT until later in the RPM range. I'm going to go ahead and get my Walbro in and intercool it before coming back for another dyno session. All in all, still pretty happy that this old engine put down what it did.
