Last week, I showed you how to install the CyanogenMod9 build of Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the HP TouchPad. Seven days worth of using Google's software on the ill-fated tablet have left me with a few observations to share. As a recovering webOS die-hard who's carried the TouchPad since launch day, the experience was equal parts surreal and exciting, with one or two dollops of frustration and fear thrown in. NOTE: CM9 Alpha 2 has since been released for the TouchPad, which may fix some of the bugs reported on in this video. Palm has released the new webOS 3.0.5 OS update. This video demonstrates how to update to this version using the new webOS Doctor 3.0.5 which can be downloaded here: palm.cdnetworks.net Also, if you have Android installed as well, this process will probably break the moboot menu and it will no longer load for you. If that is the case, you can follow my other video that will show you how to reinstall the moboot menu. (COMING SOON!) Some folks who have done this update have said that their moboot did NOT break and continued to work. I believe that this was due to them being on moboot 0.3.5, whereas some of us are still on 0.3.3. webOS 3.0.5 Changelog: -The HP webOS 3.0.5 update enhances core apps like Email and Calendar, improves the video calling experience, and fixes additional bugs. -Faster switching between Day, Week, and Month views, and faster event display in Calendar. -Faster scrolling when reading an email message. -Email attachments are now saved with draft messages. -Added sender photos and IM presence indicators in Email. -Improved stability when watching video in the Web app. -Improved handling of MP3s that are transferred from a computer using USB Drive mode. -Added a dedicated view of contacts available for a video call, for quicker setup of a video call. -New alert when video quality might be lower because of network issues. -When typing, pressing the space bar twice inserts a period. You aren't actually "rooting" it, you are simply putting it into Developer Mode so you can install PreWare and other goodies. webOS doesn't have a conventional "root" like other mobile platforms. Just type "webos20090606" into the "Just type..." box on your Touchpad in webOS and turn on Developer Mode. DO NOT ENTER A PASSWORD!!!! Once you have done this, plug in the USB cable. DO NOT SELECT USB DRIVE mode!!! Download WebOS Quick Installer from here: dl.dropbox.com Run it, and find PreWare in the applications tab. Install it, and you are ready to go. webOS 3.0.4 has been released and it was quite a suprise. It has quite alot of nice new features probably the main best new one is the camera app for you hp touchpad. With this camera app you are now able to take pictures and videos with it. Although the camera and video quality does not look super nice on the hp touchpad it is better then having nothing. the hp touchpad used to just be for skype video calls but now with the camera app you can take videos and photos. The hp touchpad does not have a rear camera.
