The Biggest Operating Triple Steam Engine at Kempton
There are three videos in my series about large working steam engines: 'The Fabulous Crofton Steam Engine (1812)' www.youtube.com , 'The Biggest Rotative Beam Engine at Crossness' www.youtube.com and this video 'The Biggest Operating Triple Steam Engine at Kempton'. Kempton Park in the West of London is known for its horse races, but there is still another reason for a visit : Kempton Engine Trust, a former London waterwork pumping station with two giant triple steam engines, 62 ft from basement to top, one of them operating again. The second engine is in restoration and you can, because of its partially disassembled state, understand perfectly - if you want to - each detail of the working one. See www.kemptonsteam.org . It was interesting, to see the starting procedure of the big triple similar to a combustion engine with a kind of starter motor - in this case a small two-cylinder steam engine. This small one is called barring engine and is used to turn the crankshaft into the correct starting position. The big engine is a triple expansion engine, that means that the the steam is used three times, each time with lower pressure and bigger piston diameter.(The resulting force is the product of steam pressure times piston area and must be the same for all of the three cylinders). Dell 13 series fix after error: media test failure check cable operating system not found
UPDATE: 12/28/11 cable fail again - unfortunately on one I had done this "mod". I am not sure of this is what is causing the cable to fail, or not now. But either way, The Dells have a problem with this model and the cable. I ordered 2- $18 w/ shipping. TD I had a Latitude13 fail the same way in the spring, so when a Vostro13 came back with the same issue, I knew what I was dealing with. Still, I was on the phone with Dell for 90 min. to get a replacement cable. Dell has a bit of an issue with clearance and case flex where the ribbon cable crosses the card reader. (9/30/11)

Probably the oldest operating gas powered traction engine in Alberta. This restored and operating 1908 Hart Parr still fires up with no effort. This unit generates 30 horsepower at the drawbar and 60 at the belt pulley and well over a thosand pounds of torque. It also uses a unique eliptical reverser that allows it to move in both directions through the same gear train. Ignition impulse is provided through a battery during starting, and switches to a dynomo when the flywheel gains enough momentum. The engine itself is a two cylinder horizontal hit and miss unit that displaces 2356 cubic inches and generates it's horsepower at 300rpm. Bruce Friedman's CSX HO Scale Model Railroad
A visit to Bruce Friedman's CSX HO Scale Model Railroad based on the route from Philadelphia, PA to Baltimore, MD. It's a multi-level walk around design, using DCC (Digital Command Control), the signals just as the prototype (aka the real thing) are operated via a computer program and by a dispatcher when they have an operating session, which is a simulation of prototype practices moving the trains over the road, picking up and setting out cars along the route, there are staging yards that trains are set up on to move over the railroad. The trackage is code 70 and 83, which is based on the actual weight of the rail based on how much it weighs per yard, the turnouts (which allow changing routes from one track to another) are based on #6 and #8 specifications, so that means the degree of curvature is what determines whether the turnout is #4, 5, 8, 10 or 12, they go as high as #20's and #30's for high speed operations and even greater. The layout requires 70 locomotives to operate during the ops sessions, also there are a total of 700 cars to fulfill the operations. The layout is based on current operations, folks from all walks of life are into the hobby and t attend Bruce's sessions to operate the layout, railroaders who really run trains either as conductors or engineers, and a great deal of military folks who are stationed in the area or visit the area, and some law enforcement as well. This is a accurate 1/16 scale operating model of the engine which powered the Civil War Ironclad USS Monitor. It was invented and built by John Ericsson in 1861 and was extremely compact for it's 300 horsepower at that time. Only one engine was ever built exactly as displayed, and it was retrieved from the ocean floor by the US Navy in 2001, and resides in the Mariners Museum ,Newport News VA, for conservation work. The model required over 3000 hours to build and all pieces including fittings and fasteners were made from scratch .

Navy SEALs Fitness training - part 1
The United States Navy Sea, Air, and Land Forces, commonly known as the Navy SEALs, are the Special Operations Forces of the United States Navy, employed in direct action and special reconnaissance operations. SEALs are also capable of undertaking unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, and other missions. The origins of the Navy SEALs go back to World War II when the United States Navy saw that in order for its troops to successfully land on beaches it needed brave men to reconnoitre the landing beaches, take note of obstacles and defenses, and ultimately guide the landing forces in. As a result the Amphibious Scout and Raider School was established in 1942 by joint- Army and Navy at Fort Pierce, Florida. It was intended to train explosive ordnance disposal personnel and experienced combat swimmers from the Army and Marine Corps, becoming the Naval Combat Demolition Unit, or NCDU. They were trained by then-Lieutenant Commander Phil H. Bucklew and then later, then-Lieutenant Draper L. Kauffman. The NCDU was first employed in Operation Torch during the invasion of North Africa in 1942. This unit became the 'first group' specialized in amphibious raids and tactics in the United States Navy. After Selection in BUD/S, graduates attend SEAL Qualification Training (SQT), which is the NEC 5326 awarding schoolhouse of NSW.
