McLaren has unveiled its new super sports car, designed using Formula 1 technology. The 600hp vehicle has been created to be as environmentally friendly as possible, with the lowest carbon output per hp of any car currently on the market. This is a new venture into the super car market, and the company is building a new production line at its centre in Surrey to turn out up to 4000 of them a year. The BBC's Richard Scott has been given an exclusive first look at the car.

Green was the theme at the LA Auto Show as car manufacturers revealed a whole new line of hybrid, electric, and fuel efficient new cars... but none of them were as stylish as Hondas's FC Sport Concept Car. The futuristic sports car is a hydrogen powered, zero emission fuel cell supercar. The three seater is lightweight with a low center of gravity and features a powerful electric motor that helps it deliver supercar performance. The eye catching, futuristic design of the car is meant to excite fans of sports cars, not just eco friendly motorists, and its a glimpse at what car design might look like in a post gas engine world. Honda's FC Sport is only a concept car, and there are currently no plans to enter this zero emission design study model into actual production anytime soon. But the fact that Honda could imagine such a fast, sexy, and green zero emissions hydrogen vehicle means it shouldn't be long before all the major car companies start building similar vehicles. If the mere mention of Porsches, Ferraris, and Maseratis is enough to get your heart racing, you'll want to take Heaven and Hell out for a spin. Jeremy Clarkson, host of the International Emmy award-winning British series Top Gear, puts you in the driver's seat of the sports cars of your dreams (and other ill-fated vehicles of your worst nightmares). You only have to be a fan of vintage James Bond films to get a rush from the tire-smoking test drive of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Clarkson is authoritative and funny, and his enthusiasm is contagious. But woe to "the unimaginative junk built with no soul, flair or passion." "Seven deadly sinners" are dispatched to "hell" in creative ways. Clarkson purchases a Perodua, drives it across the street from the dealer, and then pummels it with a sledgehammer. He stages a jousting match between the "hateful" TR7 and a Ford Scorpio, A Citron gets the Monty Python treatment when a dumpster is dropped atop it. The test drives around the track can get repetitive, but considering that this is the closest many of us will ever get to a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti or a Porsche 911, just strap yourself in, sit back, and enjoy the ride.

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has set a new lap record for an electric vehicle (EV) at the legendary 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. The TMG EV P001, with 100% electric powertrain and Jochen Krumbach at the wheel, set a new lap record of 7mins 47.794secs to beat the previous lap record, which stood at 9mins 1.338secs, by a very substantial margin. Using two electric motors, the TMG electric powertrain has a top speed of 260km/h which combined with 800Nm of torque to achieve impressive speeds on the extremely challenging Nordschleife track, which includes significant elevation changes and lengthy flat-out sections.
