MobileBurn.com - Despite its classification as a dead product, Nokia went ahead and announced a new version of the venerable N9 today, a white model with 64GB of internal storage. The white version is exactly the same on the inside as the black, cyan, and magenta models, but it eschews the matte finish found on those for a glossier front. Thankfully, Nokia kept the build quality the same, with a single piece of machined polyurethane making up the body of the phone. Nokia N9 Hands on & MeeGo Tour! Later this year potential N9 owners will have another color option: white. The handset is currently available in black, blue, and pink in a few select countries, with no plans to release in the US I had the opportunity to spend a little bit of time with the white N9 this afternoon, and snap a few pics. The hardware is new and is looking to get branded by an OEM and is based on Oaktrail. Its a 10.1 inch device with a 10mm thickness running the Z670 1.50GHz processor with an 1GB or RAM and an SSD of an unknown size.

www.netbooknews.com MeeGo gets their much needed hardware announcement at Computex 2011 from ACER who showed Acer Iconia Tab M500 a 10inch tablet which is very similar to the A500 but seems thinner on first glance. The M denotes MeeGo and is meant to be part of a series of Meego products to be produced by ACER. ACER is the first major brand to announce a tablet running MeeGo, currently WeTab in Germany has been the only MeeGo tablet on the market. The UI had some obvious tweaks with a circular widget search which is being described as a 'snackable UI' there was also some additions of an Android like App drawer. We've uploaded the demo video from the Tablet and Netbook Keynote at Computex 2011 below. We've got a one on one hands on with the MeeGo tablet tomorrow, so the presentation video below will have to satisfy you for now.

MeeGo 1.1 (December 31st daily build) is running here on the HTC HD2 with software rendering (which is why it's *so slow*). Took me a while to calibrate the touchscreen after Cotulla built a special kernel for the project. As you can see, MeeGo 1.1 is a very early build, and it will likely take another 6 months or more before MeeGo is ready for retail, but it's fresh, clean, with a distinct style. Intel Malaysia gave me the opportunity to get up close and personal with MeeGo, a Linux-based operating system designed for the next generation of computing devices including netbooks, handheld computing and communications devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, smart TVs, tablets and more.
Nokia is starting to ship their new MeeGo device, the N9, but it is unlikely that we will see any future MeeGo devices even if the N9 is successful. The N9 is a beautiful piece of hardware and MeeGo is powerful, but there is no ecosystem for MeeGo and the device will likely end up only being purchased by enthusiasts like the Nokia N900.

Permission to use granted by Nokia Taiwan! Nokia just presented the Nokia N9 smartphone which is the result of Nokia's MeeGo effort. The device is rumored to run on MeeGo Harmattan and ship in Q3 to folks in Europe and boast a 960 x 540 screen resolution. These facts sadly weren't confirmed during the press event however they did give quite an impressive walk through of many of the operating system features. First off the hardware is stunning, the glass fits seamlessly and curves over the bezzel, they've also included swipe gestures for navigation so there is no need for a home key. Regarding the hardware the screen polycarbonate is the same colour through out so if it scratches they wont be visible. Also, the screen material used is designed to give great antena reception so you won't have to hold it in any special manner to ensure great quality. (This was a nice quite dig at Apple and the only one I picked up at during the walk through, good job keeping it classy Nokia!) The inclusion of NFC is also a nice touch for pairing of devices as well as jumping on the mobile payment bandwagon in a timely manner.
