I own two pairs of legendary Apogee Scintilla speakers (1 ohm versions). This is the first pair "the original one" with Krell KRS 100 monoblocks. The other pair is in bad condition by now but being brought back to life. There you can also see one Dynamic Precision amp - capable to drive Scintillas pretty well. Today I use Krells + DP biamped. There is also a home theater system but that´s another story.

Could this be the best ipod dock that money can buy? This is a short demonstration of how it works & how it plays for those who are serious about getting hi fidelity from their ipod and don't mind paying £900 for one. During my testing sessions it is very clear to me that the Kid produces a superb & involving midband, with the treble on the sweet and slightly soft side, while the bass is solid & well defined. I personally don't like soft & sweet treble, users can easily adjust treble & bass level to their liking but i wouldn't prefer using the Kid's onboard equalization. On a solid state amplification setup (i also tested this with a Naim setup some time ago) the kid manages to give a warm/valve like sound which is appealing to some if you prefer that kind of sound. I personally think it is an exceptional product it would completely wipe out the majority of sub £1k cdp although i must say i tend to look for upgradability on top of functionality in things, especially in high end equipment and i just don't see any for this product. I must conclude that if you're the sort of person that demands quality but rarely would you upgrade your equipment then this is the product for you! However I would be more than happy to have the wadia itransport and a DAC of my desire (& possibly upgrade my DAC in the future!)

This is a video of a restoration I performed on a Krell KSA-150. It also highlights an unethical hifi dealer in Melbourne, Australia called Trevor Lees Audio, also trading as ChristophersAudiophileStore. Proprietor Trevor Lees misrepresented the condition and background of this amplifier on eBay. Trevor's pre-purchase friendliness evaporated into not answering calls after I discovered a horrendously bad repair job. I had been assured that no previous work had ever been carried out and that this amp was perfect in every way. I was also told Trevor had sold the amp new to its previous owner - another lie unfortunately and you may be starting to see a pattern... I documented everything including an engineer's estimate to restore the amplifier to the advertised condition but, with no help forthcoming, I decided to document my complete restoration of this amplifier and learn a lesson in who not to purchase from. The amp is now better than new in terms of parts and performance. I highly recommend amplifiers like this be restored by a competent technician once they are more than ten years old. As you will see, most techs don't have the experience, skills, parts or test equipment to repair this type of gear correctly. I perform this kind of work for people who want the very best performance from their premium audio, test and measurement gear. I take great pride in performing work to better than factory specifications in every way. Quality work doesn't come cheap, but the best <b>...</b>

This Krell classic KSA-50 came in with shorted transistors and browned power and board resistors. We replaced all the Power transistors and audio board caps too. Speaker protection circuits were also repaired (replacing the MJE15031 transistor and all six electrolytic caps). Biasing and offset adjusted to Manufacturer specs. The unit sounds very very nice. Perhaps the cleanest sounding 50W class A amplifier in the world.

My uncle recently gave me his Krell KSA-150 and I just got it setup with my Monitor Audio RS1's (such a huge amp for little speakers) and using my Marantz SR7500 as the preamp and using an M&K MX-105 subwoofer. Overall, it sounds quite amazing! I even had to turn it down because I figured the neighbors were going to complain.

Krell KSA-100 came into our surgery in pretty poor shape. Wine stains inside suggested that someone had poured a glass inside. Leading to lots of stuck-on dirt and dust. We took it apart, cleaned off the wine/dirt, replaced all the Power Transistors + the electrolytics on the audio boards. Initial Power ON surge protection put in. Set to manufacturer biasing and a stable 0.00V speaker DC. Sounds like a gem. Should be good for another 30 years.

KRELL KSA-100 REPAIR RESTORE AMPLIFIER STEREO

This unit came in for an overhaul. We replaced all the Power transistors, reseated all the Driver transistors. Replaced all the Audio board and protection board electrolytic capacitors. Replaced one broken Speaker binding post. Cleaned out the cooling fans underneath. The unit now sounds excellent. We test each and every component in the audio boards as part of the service. If anything has varied more than 5% of specification, it's replaced.
