Victor Borge improvising on the piano

Victor has just finished conducting at one of his 80th birthday concerts and the crowd reaction was so good that the violinist, Anton Kontra, suggests an encore. No encore was planned but Monti's Czardas, which Victor had heard before BUT HAD NEVER PLAYED, is suggested. Nevertheless, the two go at it and put on quite a show. Watch Victor's facial expressions in the 2nd half as his partner escalates the action.

iPad Garageband - Guitar Jam Improvisation

ATTENTION: I want to make something clear: I DO NOT support buying the iPad or the Garageband. The truth is I don't think that the iPad is such a great device or worth the money. There are much better solutions with less money. Personally I bought and sold almost immediately (within days) more than 4 iPads before they lose value just to do garageband videos or test a new IOS. If I ever actually need to buy a tablet to keep it would definitely be an android one that cost less and do more. I felt the need to say that because I received A LOT comments about people buying iPads or Garageband application because they watch this video. I did this for fun and I am not supporting Apple or its products. This is me creating a jam track with apple's Garageband app for the ipad and then shredding a guitar solo over it! I am sorry about the bad video quality, but i could not find a way to record ipad's screen in a fast framerate. Anyway i believe you will get the idea. Hope you enjoy!

Improvised Blues Guitar Solo

GET THE TAB at www.freeguitarvideos.com This solo was improvised over "Third Degree" from Jody Worrell's Let's Jam! Blues Standards collection of jam tracks. "Third Degree" is a slow 12 Bar Blues in D that was co-written by guitarist Willie Dixon and pianist Eddie Boyd in 1953. The song was later covered by blues legends like Eric Clapton, Jeff Healey, and Johnny Winter. Jody's improvised solo lasts 24 measures and combines melodic runs, tasty bends, and blazing licks. Hauschka at NPR: Improvisation

Listening to a piece by Hauschka can be deceiving: What sounds like an ensemble of musicians and instruments is just one man, performing at one piano. His real name is Volker Bertelmann, and he hails from Dusseldorf, Germany, where he works with his "prepared piano." He wrests disruptive sounds from the instrument's 88 keys by outfitting the strings or mallets with objects such as ping-pong balls, aluminum foil and leather. His new album is titled Foreign Landscapes, and he recently visited NPR's studios to demonstrate his craft. For more, visit NPR.ORG/MUSIC

Top 5 Improvising Concepts

Andrew answer's the question: "I am totally stuck when it comes to improvising. I have spent a lot of time practicing scales and also learning about keys and Music Theory. I have also worked through several books that teach guitar licks all over the fingerboard. I have good technique, I have learnt how to play fast lines, tapping, sweep picking, etc. but, I still just cant seem to play a nice long melody during a solo. When I listen to top-notch players like Steve Vai or just good all around guitar players such as David Gilmour they seem to have a flow to their playing that I just cant seem to obtain. Can you please help me with a few tips on this topic." Thank you, Donald - Las Vegas, NV. Andrew goes over a quick "Top 5" list of Improvising Concepts: 1). Learn scale patterns as well as octave templates. Practice for hours to gain a solid technique for them all over the guitar neck. 2). Listen to the solos of great guitar players, and try your best to understand their use of space and economy in their solos. Also, spend time listening to other instruments as well as vocal melody lines. Do a good deal of Transcription work also. 3). Understand that feelings and emotions play a huge role in developing solos that capture a listeners attention. When you feel inspired... PLAY GUITAR! 4). Master the use of phrasing devices such as; slides, bends, legato, vibrato, double-stops, harmonics... etc. 5). Understand the relationships between scale degrees and the chords being ...

Jazz Improvisation - How To Create Ultra Productive Practice Sessions (http://learnjazzfaster.com)

www.learnjazzfaster.com Visit now to get your free copy of The Monster Jazz Manifesto. How do I know what to practice? That's by far the most common question asked by students of jazz. After all, learning jazz is no small feat. There's a ton that goes into it. There are thousands of books, articles, lessons, DVDs and websites dedicated to learning jazz. Whether you're studying jazz improvisation, jazz theory, jazz guitar or jazz piano, there's just simply a mountain of information to go through. Let's talk about a few ways to make this seemingly difficult decision much easier. Now, there are several things you wanna consider when you're putting together your jazz practice routine. First of all, your present abilities will weigh heavily on these choices. As a general rule you want to make sure that whatever you are practicing is challenging but doable. In other words, success with the practice topic needs to be within the realm of possibility, if you dig. If you are a relative newbie to jazz improvisation you don't want to be working on ridiculously hard tunes like Coltrane's Giant Steps or Count Down, or working on some wacky odd time signatures, or blazing up-tempo jazz piano playing, etc. On the flip side if you're an advanced intermediate player you don't want to be practicing the same stuff like etudes or exercises you've already got nailed. You want to be sure that the material is pushing you out of your comfort zone. But not by too much. Again, challenging but ...

Improvisation Can Be Taught - Jazz Piano Legend Mulgrew Miller

Pianist extraordinaire Mulgrew Miller discusses the fine art of Jazz improvisation. Mulgrew Miller (born August 13, 1955 in Greenwood, Mississippi) is an American jazz pianist who performs in a number of jazz idioms. He began his career as member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In a childhood filled with early musical experiences, mostly playing gospel music in his church and R&B and blues at dances. Miller was interested in jazz piano, and established a trio in high school that would play at cocktail parties. Miller admits that they did not really know what they were doing and were merely "approaching jazz". Miller is said to have set his mind definitely to becoming a jazz pianist after seeing Oscar Peterson on television. Much of Miller's playing has the same technical prowess so often connected with Peterson. Currently, he maintains a working trio with Ivan Taylor on bass, and Rodney Green on drums. He has released four albums to date with Derrick Hodge (bass) and Karriem Riggins (drums) (both on the label MAXJAZZ): Live At Yoshi's Vol. 1 (2004), Live At Yoshi's Vol. 2 (2005), Live At The Kennedy Center Vol. 1 (2006), and Live At The Kennedy Center Vol. 2 (2007). On May 20, 2006, Miller was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Performing Arts at Lafayette College's 171st Commencement Exercises. Miller currently resides in Easton, Pennsylvania. As of 2006 he is the Director of Jazz Studies at William Paterson University. He was the Artist in Residence at Lafayette ...

The Improvisation Myth

www.steviesnacks.com - In this 20 minute lesson, I'll attempt to diffuse a common myth about improvisation, and explain in a very practical way, how improvising on guitar is very much like talking without a script. I'll break guitar solos down into 4 parts and explain how one missing part that we don't think about often can be the key to learning how to improvise.
