Can you handle this much organ? We are used to guitarists like Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, or Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes mixing it up, but Rhoda Scott and Barbara Dennerlein prove that instrumental music isn't just a man's world. This impromptu performance took place in Switzerland in 2002 at the Bern Jazz Festival, bringing together two legends of the Hammond B3 Organ - the 5 time Downbeat Critics Poll Winner Barbara Dennerlein and the great Soul Jazz artist Rhoda Scott, aka "Barefoot Lady" - called a very great virtuoso by Arthur Rubinstein. For Dennerlein fans this is a bit unusual, because Barbara isn't playing pedal bass. This number "Nova" was composed by Rhoda, an accomplished pedal bass player herself, so she provides the bass lines. Not only are they smoking hot soloists, but check out the great interplay, harmonics, and accompaniment.

Unlocking the secrets of the Hammond Tone Generator. An inside look at a H series tone generator. PLEASE READ! THIS TG WAS TAKEN FROM A SCRAPPED ORGAN The purpose of the video is to show those who would otherwise not know what a TG looks like on the inside what makes their Hammond tick. The oiling system is shown, as is the mechanics of the TG. The TG was taken from an H that was parted out due to a massive amount of other problems. Most of the other functional parts from this organ were donated to people to make their own H operational again. Remember that these parts have not been made in 30+ years, so what is out there is all there is. The harsh reality of life is that it takes several organ donors to keep a single organ working. The TG itself has no value other than the scrap value of the metal, unfortunately. A fully functional H is only worth a couple hundred bucks, at best. This was a good exercise to see "what if?" There have been theories of what would happen if the magnet met the TW, now we know that it may not be all that traumatic. Point is that people should not be scared to make adjustments for fear of the magnet touching the TW. I would strongly advise you take caution to not allow contact of the magnet to TW, however, as one cannot be sure that damage will be done under certain circumstances.

As many of you know, this title was written by Barbara and dedicated to the late great Jimmy Smith. Although her playing was not influenced by Jimmy Smith, like all jazz lovers she is grateful to him for his contribution to organ jazz - his approach to soloing made modern jazz organ possible - during her concerts she often mentions this fact and praises Jimmy Smith. Barbara and Jimmy first met when she was only 15 years old. She took part in an organ competition and Jimmy Smith was one of the judges. In an interview she described their first meeting: BD: "I sat down and played something different, "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and suddenly I noticed someone came from behind me and he took my hair, I had very long hair, much longer than now, and he put it to the side, and then he sat down and he played with me. [laughs] So really, it was great. AAJ: And you weren't expecting it at all? BD: No, it was incredible of course, wonderful. And then people were so shocked about their decision—he played with me, the second place finalist. The third place finalist didn't even play again after that!
