Giraffe Birth at the Memphis Zoo
The Memphis Zoo staff welcomed a baby reticulated giraffe born today around noon on August 29, 2008. *WARNING: This video shows the ENTIRE birth. Female giraffe "Marilyn" and male giraffe "Kenya" are the proud parents of the Zoo's newest arrival. This is the second successful birth of a baby giraffe at the Memphis Zoo in the last two years; "Angela Kate" was born November 5, 2006, and was the Zoo's first giraffe birth since 1995.

Giraffe Babies Born at Longleat
The latest species to be added to the "red list" of endangered animals has received a major boost after three baby Rothschild giraffe have been born at Longleat Safari Park in recent weeks. All three Giraffe calves are doing well and can be seen enjoying their new surrounding within the East African Reserve. The first baby to be born has been named Kaiser, a male Rothschild Giraffe and the first to be born to dad, Doto, who was only introduced to the Longleat giraffe ladies in early summer 2009.

Masai Giraffe "Miles" Born at the Houston Zoo Jan. 30 '09
www.houstonzoo.org Hes very tall and very cute and brand new. Early Friday morning, January 30 the Houston Zoo welcomed the birth of a bouncing baby boy Masai giraffe. He was born around 6 am and by 7:50 am he was standing on his own, said Houston Zoo Supervisor Laurie McGivern. Hes 69 and a half inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. Hes has all the appearances of a strong and healthy boy, said McGivern. The as yet unnamed baby is being hand reared by Houston Zoo giraffe keepers. Noel is a gentle, attentive and good mother but doesnt make enough milk to nurse and raise her calves, said McGivern. So, the keeper staff will bottle feed the calf for at least six months, added McGivern. His primary keepers have a 24 hour watch and feeding schedule in place to ensure he gets the best care and attention. Initially the calfs diet will consist of bovine colostrum mixed with goats milk. But in a day or so we will switch to goats milk mixed with a little bit of water, said McGivern. Noels newborn will be on view at the Houston Zoo giraffe exhibit. When the calf is in his barn stall Zoo guests can view him through the stall window at the rear of the giraffe exhibit, said McGivern. The staff will also be presenting Meet the Keeper Talks with the baby at various times during the day, added McGivern. Presentation times will vary. Zoo guests are encouraged to visit the Zoos Web site at www.houstonzoo.org for the Meet the Keeper Talk schedules at the giraffe exhibit.

!!!LION TIGER vs Giraffe - WATCH THIS VIDEO TO SEE THE BRUTAL BATTLE!!! We recently did a free tour for a group of veterans from our local VA hospital. Since a number of our own members are former military it is always a meaningful experience. We decided to make a different form of enrichment to give to Cameron and Zabu our male lion and white tiger that live in the same enclosure! The cardboard giraffe/gazelle was filled with small chunks of red meat to entice the big cats into action! Cameron was first on scene and didn't seem interested so Zabu had the enrichment all to herself. The tour group, staff and volunteers enjoyed watching her antics and we're sure Zabu enjoyed the snack and toy!
