Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) vs. iPhone 4 Super AMOLED vs. IPS LCD No one disputes that the iPhone4 is the winner of the "staring at inanimate objects with a magnifying glass" contest, but I'm not wasting time with things we can't see because most of us are stuck with human eyes. If you're looking for magnifying glass comparisons, move along. Nothing to see here. Both phones look equally sharp playing the movie, but a camcorder does no justice to the Samsung's wider dynamic range and higher contrast. CCD's and CMOS sensors don't have anywhere near the dynamic range of the human eye, so the difference here isn't as obvious as in person. The iPhone4's IPS LCD is a big improvement over the TFT's in the previous 3gs, but the viewing angle and contrast ratio still can't come near the Samsung true black LED technology. After about 15 min of playing at full brightness and equal volumes, the iPhone4 battery dropped 9%, the Vibrant 5%. Final thought.... size matters. video stats: MPEG-4 AVC (AVS Video Converter v6.4) 1205 Kbps, 23.976 fps 800x450 (Vibrant) 960x540 (iPhone4)
