The Fat Albert animated cartoon TV show's theme song from season 1 Fat Albert first appeared in Cosby's stand-up comedy routine "Buck Buck," as recorded on his 1967 album Revenge. The stories were based upon Cosby's tales about growing up in the inner city of West Philadelphia. In 1969, Cosby and veteran animator Ken Mundie brought Fat Albert to animation in a one-shot prime-time special entitled Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert. The special, which aired on NBC, was a hybrid of live-action and animation. The music for the special (and later the series) was written and performed by jazz pianist/keyboardist Herbie Hancock in 1969 and was released on the Warner Bros. album Fat Albert Rotunda. The producers wanted NBC to bring Fat Albert to Saturday mornings, but they refused because the series was too educational. [1]. So, Bill Cosby and a new production company, Filmation Associates, took the property to CBS. The series, now titled Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, premiered on September 9, 1972 on CBS for a 12-year run (however, it was not in continuous production). It also spent another season in first-run syndication in 1984-1985. Several prime-time holiday specials featuring the characters were also produced. Like most animated series at the time, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids contained a laugh track.

This raw video is of the nine minute performance over Barksdale Airforce Base. Airshow in Bossier City Louisiana included performances by the Blue Angels and Snow Birds. I'll try to upload the HD version once I figure out how. It was a wild ride, mostly because I was in the cargo area and couldn't see what was coming. Thank you to the crew for assistance in strapping in the CAM and patching in audio from the flight. A most impressive take-off: A Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) at Miramar NAS Air Show, on August 16, 1997 This is "JATO" because this is a "Jet of expanding hot gases forced out of a small opening"; Whatever if the jet of hot gas is generated by the combustion of solid fuel or liquid fuel, from a static engine or turbo assisted. Be aware that I'll remove any offending comment and block it's author immediately! Even more impressive when on big planes like this C-130. It's "Fat Albert" of the Blue Angels. This was during one of the very last Miramar Air Shows with the Navy. It was in the early part of the Twilight Miramar Air Show.

It is a little hard to see all the detail, due to it is nightime, but it is okay. "Fat Albert," is a C-130 cargo plane that is attached to the Blue Angels. This small clip was shot at night [obviously] on a small digital camera during a JATO [Jet Assisted Take-Off] demostration. Why do they have rockets on a crgo plane? A staple on CBS-TV from 1972 to 1984, "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" was one of the best cartoons aired during the golden age of Saturday morning TV. Each week, the gang learned a lesson and the episode ended with them singing a song about what they learned. While many shows from the late-60's / early-70's era featured music segments (The Archies, The Globetrotter, Josie & The Pussycats, etc.), the songs on Fat Albert were far more educational than the bubblegum pop tunes of the earlier shows. And like the earlier shows, the Fat Albert show *did* have a soundtrack LP released for it (Paramount PAS-6053). But, this LP now seems to be *extremely* rare. Fat Albert The squadron's Transport C-130 Hercules aircraft; affectionately known as Fat Albert, is the only Marine Corps aircraft permanently assigned to support a Navy squadron. It is flown by an all-Marine Corps crew of three pilots and five enlisted personnel. Fat Albert flies more than 140000 miles during the course of a show season. The C-130 carries 25000 pounds of cargo, 45000 pounds of fuel, and transports the squadron's support and maintenance crew to each show site. Fat Albert cruises at 320 knots (approximately 350 miles per hour) at 27000 feet. Four Allison turboprop-engines producing more than 16000-shaft horsepower provide the C-130 with the power to land and depart on runways as short as 2500 feet. At select show sites, Fat Albert demonstrates its Jet-Assisted Take-Off (JATO) capability. Eight solid-fuel rockets are attached to the sides of the aircraft, four on each side. The rockets allow Fat Albert to take off within 1500 feet, climb at a 45-degree angle, and attain an altitude of 1500 feet in seconds.

WATCH IN HD On the weekend of March 27th through the 28th, 2010 NAS Kingsville hosted Wings over South Texas featuring the world famous Blue Angels. Traveling with the Blues is their supply transport C130 fondly referred to as "FAT ALBERT". Myself, along with a small group were lucky enough to hitch a ride. I was able to mount several cameras in the plane, One in the cockpit and another in the cargo area, along with one on the ground. The following short video is a chronicle of this once in a lifetime trip. The Video was shot using a Panasonic HPX 300 using the AVC Intra 50 codec

Blue Angels C-130 "Fat Albert" A Wild Crosswind Landing
The Aviation Site: www.kbvp.com The Blue Angels "Fat Albert" Demo at the California Capital Airshow 2008 was pretty wild on Sunday. The crosswinds were wreaking havoc on all airshow performers, including the "Fat Albert" Demo. You can see the steep approach angle that is normal, but watch the nose of the C-130 point about thirty degrees off centerline as the crew corrects for the crosswind drift. You can see the main gear touch down mostly on the port(left) side, then the nose gear taking the brunt of the landing. The port front main mount(tire) blows out due to the stress. What a wild landing!
