Everex took the wraps off the tiny CloudBook, an ultra mobile PC with a full size keyboard at Lunch@Piero's during CES 2008. The CloudBook runs the new open source gOS operating system and is based on the VIA C7-M ULV processor and will be available at walmart.com end of January.

Charlie St. Cloud book trailer
Charlie St. Cloud (15) and Sam (12) are two brothers with a love so strong, no force can separate them. When their mom leaves Charlie to babysit Sam, they decide to go to watch a 1991 Red Sox baseball game in Boston against the New York Yankees with their pet beagle, Oscar. They "borrow" their neighbor Mrs. Pung's Ford Country Squire. On the way there they cannot decide which CD to listen to. As they cross the General Edwards bridge on the Saugus River, on the way home, Charlie decides to take a look at the moon to see if Sam was right about the moon being larger that night. Charlie doesn't see an 18-wheeler truck come and they end up tumbling twice crushing Oscar along the way. With that, Charlie awakens in an ambulance by a religious paramedic, Florio Ferrente. However, Sam is mortally wounded and dies in his brother's arms, but not before promising Charlie to never leave him again. Thirteen years later, Charlie has grown up and is working at the Marblehead cemetery. Every evening at dusk he goes to a nearby forest where he plays with Sam. Charlie has the gift of seeing ghosts. This serves him well as an undertaker, as he can talk with Louise. In the town lives Tess Carroll, a yachtswoman who wants to make a round the world trip. A week prior to her departure, she directs her yacht in to a storm to test it, but in an accident, Tess and the yacht are lost. Tess appears at the cemetery. She meets Charlie and they go on a date. Cloudbook playing WC3 FT
Ran a default install at 640x480 stretched. (No default res) Game wanted to put me at 800x600 with some options turned to medium, but I didn't want to stress the hard drive so I turned them to low and dropped res to 640. Game ran perfectly, absolutely no lag. CD was mounted using Daemon Tools version 3.47, no lag issues so far with this version of d-tools. Started a single player custom map and played through to the first battle with an npc.

Everex Cloudbook - Google Earth
An Everex Cloudbook running Windows XP Pro SP2 with drivers from everex.com, running Google Earth. It warns you to run it in 1024x768, but I wanted to show how it is at the native resolution. Dialog boxes on left are pretty much unusable because they don't fit. The initial choppiness when earth first loads is due to HD activity, but it goes away and is smooth after that.

Everex Cloudbook - Halo attempt
Everex Cloudbook running Windows XP Pro SP2 with stock Everex drivers. Tried to load up a trial version of Halo. Set it at lowest settings possible all around. 640x480, low textures, no particle effects, no shadows, no nothing. It might be ok on any indoor areas of the game, but outdoors it seems that there's just not enough horsepower in the Cloudbook to run this game smoothly. :( Oh well, it was just a test. The Cloudbook isn't really intended to be a gaming laptop at all.
