How to Get Started in Hip-Hop Choreography
"Myname is Randy RC Connor, choreographer to the stars. I've worked with Britney Spears, P. Diddy Combs, Prince, Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, Jay-Z. We're gonna just break down some moves, that you can use at the club, at the parties, at home, in your bathroom -- just have fun guys, so let's get started. C'mon! The first thing, I think, with getting into hip-hop choreography is first and foremost, is to believe in yourself. Then after that, I would say, start working on your materials. Start developing your material. Start working. Start training yourself. You know, just really focus in on you and your ability, your style and your choreography. Then I would suggest that you take classes - you start going into environments where there's other dancers and choreographers who are actively engaged in the business. There's quite a few places, just do your research. Whatever city you're in, just try to surround yourself with, with that type of energy and environment. Stay focused, and just believe in yourself. Keep striving, keep working on your material, and just never stop. Put yourself out there, and, you know, if there's any local artists in town, you know, sometimes you gotta do what's called 'promotional gigs'. In my day and time, you know, we did a lot of freebies, you know. It wasn't as competitive as it is now, but if there's an opportunity, just do it. It's not always about the money. Since graduating from Barnard College in 1963, Ms. Tharp has choreographed more than one hundred and thirty five dances, five Hollywood movies, directed and choreographed four Broadway shows. She received one Tony Award, two Emmy Awards, nineteen honorary doctorates, the Vietnam Veterans of America President's Award, the 2004 National Medal of the Arts, the 2008 Jerome Robbins Prize, a 2008 Kennedy Center Honor. Her many grants include the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthu Fellowship. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and an Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 1992 Ms. Tharp wrote her autobiography Push Comes to Shove. In 2003 she wrote, The Creative Habit: Learn it and Use it for Life. In 2009 she wrote, The Collaborative Habit: Life Lessons for Working Together both of which were published by Simon and Schuster.

Born in Asmara,Eritrea(East Africa) Luam began dancing with African Rhythms Dance Company at University of Pennsylvania and ballet shango in Philadelphia before moving to NY(graduating with a degree in Biological Bases of Behavior, double minors in psychology and African American studies). While working at AOL Time Warner's, Time inc. in the dance Advance Technology group, she continued her training at Broadway Dance center and Djoniba Dance center studying jazz, hip-hop, Ballet, West African , Cuban, Modern, and Haitian. Here she also worked Rhapsody: The company for several years. Meanwhile she continued at Time Inc., working on creative technology projects with Fortune, people, Entertainment weekly, as well as their Intranet and Advanced communications group. Her passion for dance grew to teaching and choreography and she began teaching at Djoniba dance center and NY sports clubs in 2000.
