My second trackday: July 17th and 18th with Pacific Track Time at Buttonwillow Raceway in California, running configuration AFM 13 clockwise, mostly in B group, some in A. I'm just there to go fast. Video begins with a sighting lap. This is my streetbike in track trim: stock 2007 Honda CBR600RR with Galfer SS front lines, Galfer HH front pads, and white wheels shod with Dunlop D208GPs. Most of the transitions are done in the same corner when it switches from rider POV to the chase bike POV, which was piloted by my friend on a lightly modded 2008 1000RR. Sorry about the shaky video, and yeah, I know I have a hard time staying low in the saddle... Every year SCminiGP and NCminiGP meet at Buttonwillow Raceway in Central California, to hold what has essentially become the California Regional MiniGP race as the top talent from Northern California meets up with the fastest guys and girls from Southern California. One of the most anticipated races of the year at one of my favorite tracks, I completed practice feeling both confident and on the pace to run with one of the mid to front groups after easily dipping into the low 58's during practice. I knew I would have my work cut out for me as I had to start from last on the ten rider grid for the heat race. All I had to do was get a good start... As my luck would have it, I was registered for 4 races but I ended up with two DNF's and two DNS'. I would only manage to complete around 4 full race laps throughout the day. Some days just don't go your way... As for the crash, after another horrible start I knew that I had to get through traffic quickly if I wanted a shot at running with the mid group as they had started to get away. I had planned on taking the outside line into the corner so I could late apex and get a good drive out and go up the inside on the following corner. As I had committed to the outside line, the rider ahead of me had unexpectedly moved out wide at the last moment leaving me with nowhere to go. A simple case of two different lines intersecting at exactly the wrong time...

Stock Mazda3 engine w/ Mazdaspeed coilovers and GT2871R turbo, running in the solo group because it was my first time at this track. The car ran amazingly on the turbo kit without problems for 2.5 years, but decided this was its last session. Engine blows at 4:58 (shortly after a nice pass at around 4:15, into a pretty aggressive line through a fastish long right turn). Luckily, it happened in the esses and I was able to coast safely off the track and into the parking lot near the cold pits, without interrupting the session at all.

HKS cam out to lay the smack down on the US Time Attack series at the Super Street Super Lap. The record was previously held by JIC in their S15 @ 1:48. The HKS car came out, piloted by Nobuteru Taniguchi (NOB), and shattered the record with a 1:43! Nob is also the Tsukuba circuit Time Attack record holder in Japan using the same car.
