I dedicate this to the many teachers who have inspired me, and I think of you as I intone this beautiful chant. The opening invocation for Astanga Yoga is a wonderful way to honor all teachers, as it invokes the spirit of Patanjali, the 2nd Century sage who took the Yoga Sutra from chant to print. Here is the chant with a poetic translation from the original in Sanskrit. Om Vande Gurunam charanaravinde I honor the many teachers Sandarshita svatma sukavabodhe who have awakened happiness and insight, Nih shreyase jangalikayamane who have been a refuge, Samsara halahala mohashantyai and have helped eliminate delusions in this life.
