Enter the Adidas adiVERSE - a melding of the Virtual & Real-World, it gives shoppers an interactive experience for hundreds or maybe even thousands of shoes so that they can learn a lot about the shoe even if it is not physically in the store. The Tricorder project aims to develop handheld devices that can sense a diverse array of phenomena that we can't normally see, and intuitively visualize them so we might see temperature or magnetism or pressure as naturally as we see colour. The Tricorder project emphasizes accessibility. The devices we build are meant to be as inexpensive as possible, so folks might have access to them without having to worry about the cost, or their difficulty of use. My hope is that someday every household — and every child who wants one — might have access to a small device that can easily be kept close in a pocket or bag, and quickly pulled out when curiosity strikes. By turning a walk home through the park into a nature walk, and Dad's spring time home repairs into a lesson about heat flow, it's my hope that everyday experiences will become opportunities to learn and develop an intuitive understanding and deep fluency with the science of our everyday world. It is my deep belief that knowledge brings about positive change. Thousands of protesters from a diverse coalition of organizations including unions, antiwar groups, immigrant rights organizations and Occupy are expected to march in the streets. Chicago is preparing a massive security operation, with the Department of Homeland Security declaring the summit a "National Special Security Event." Civil liberties advocates have warned it could provide the first public test of a new law that expands the ability of the Secret Service to suppress protests in or around certain restricted zones. "We think that NATO should be meeting in an underground bunker or on a remote island," Dorhn says. "[Chicago] is being treated as really a practice military zone ... [while] we don't have money here for community mental health clinics, we don't have money for public libraries or for schools, we don't have money for public transportation... We want peace and not permanent wars abroad and military war games and [the] national security state at home."
