Do-It-Yourself Turbocharger Turbojet
This is a run-up of my home built turbocharger turbojet engine. Long, but maybe of some interest to other engine builders. It is quite old now and dated somewhat and I now know far more about jet engines than I did then. Please go easy on me guys... It is my first video! I would like to issue a challenge to all fellow Do it Yourself Turbojet engine builders and brushless electric R/C park flyer hobbiests/manufacturers out there. Please comment and discuss the feasibility of mounting a small "outrunner" style permanent magnet brushless electric motor to the compressor side of this and similar engines. I realize that shaft harmonics and bearing limitations will play a very significant role in whether or not such a motor/generator combination would hang together at 140000 RPM or more. Of course, associated power electronics with the ability to switch from starter motor to DC generator would need to be designed as well to efficiently (relatively speaking) produce electricity at these ultra high speeds. Such a device would mimic some of the hybrid turbocharger or "electrically assisted turbochargers" that have been developed by Garrett and others in recent years. These have been designed, developed and built to reduce "turbo lag" and recover wasted energy in the form of electricity with the intention of supplementing the charging system in vehicles. Porting an eBay 20g turbocharger
The price of this turbo will make it a popular purchase, so I figured I'd air out some tech about ways to improve it. This thing is not for everybody. I wouldn't feel comfortable bolting it on my car the way it comes out of the box. I could complain about its flaws except that so far absolutely none of them have been a deal-breaker for me. To me it's like an empty canvas. I promise to eat those words if it happens, and share my poop. Usually I can easily correct these flaws myself and so can you. BUT! If this thing turns out to perform well with what I do to it... It could easily be a cheap, quick ticket to an 11-second car. Something you could do with a free running 1g, a hacksaw, and about $500 worth of fuel upgrades. Yeah, that would be ridiculous, and I'm bolting it onto a well-modified car... But that being possible speaks volumes for what a DSM can really do. This is no big deal to me. I'd rather guinea pig my car for you in HD so you guys can decide whether or not you'd spend your money on this. Really it's an experiment because this isn't my daily-driver, and it contributes to building a better Colt. **READ FULL DESCRIPTION** This was a great departure scene of an NS mixed freight departing from a red block untill some jack wagon goes around the gates and blocks my shot and after that....... The Un-Expected happens............ NS mixed freight: C40-9W # 8862, EX- CR SD70 #2573(ol' Smokey), SD70M-2 #2737, and C40-9W # ? The smoke was caused by a blown turbocharger gasket and the locomotive is burning it's own lube oil. it's a huge deal and the loco diesel engine can be saved but it needs to be shut down asap also It got all over me, the camera, and my grandpa's truck, but it was an awsome experience!!! 1977 Detroit Diesel 6V53T - First Run With Turbocharger Installed - 1-08-2011
This is the first run of my General Motors / Detroit Diesel 6V53T with the turbocharger installed. In the process of converting my M551 Sheridan Tank engine into an automotive engine, I had to change the flywheel housing to an SAE type housing. With the new SAE #2 housing installed, I was no longer able to mount the turbocharger in its designed position. I took advantage of the accessory drive covers on the new flywheel housing and mounted my Eaton Power Steering Pump and my Bendix Westinghouse TU-FLO 501 Twin Piston Air Compressor. I extended the exhaust manifolds 10.75" so that the turbocharger cleared the accessory drives. Once the exhaust was plumbed, I plumbed the intake so that the turbocharger forced air into the blower on the engine. To keep the engine running cool, I created an open loop radiator which uses water pressure and gravity to circulate water into the water pump. With a series of valves I can bleed air bubbles, and regulate the ratio of recycled water going through the coolant system. The temperature was 27 degrees. The video started about 20 seconds after the engine started. The smoke you see is from the turbocharger. It hadnt been used after I rebuilt it, so it was covered with oil. The oil is burning off of the fins in the video. In the second video, the oil has burned off and the exhaust is clear. The engine has also not reached operating temperature in this video (165 degrees) I am very pleased with the engines performance. Enjoy the sound of 330 <b>...</b>

VW TSI ENGINE ANIMATION
TSI TECHNOLOGY Following the success of its TDI and FSI engines, Volkswagen is launching the latest in a line of pioneering inventions with the introduction of TSI petrol technology. FSI uses the direct injection of petrol into the combustion chamber to improve efficiency and hence reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Taking this further, TSI uses -- for the first time ever -- an FSI engine which is then dual-charged through a combination of an engine driven supercharger and an exhaust gas turbocharger arranged in series. The driving characteristics of the new TSI engine are improved over those of the current FSI unit. The belt-driven supercharger operates at the lower engine speeds, with the turbocharger coming in as engine speed increases. The result of this is excellent driveability and performance throughout the range with no turbo lag and high maximum torque. Key to the TSI's success is that direct injection allows an abnormally high compression ratio of 10:1 to be used in conjunction with high maximum boost pressure of up to 2.5 bar absolute. This enables the relatively small engine to use very high gearing to provide exceptional fuel efficiency for a petrol engine, particularly at motorway cruising speeds. As an additional bonus, the TSI engine provides driver enjoyment, producing high power and torque across a rev range from 1000 to 6500 rpm. The new TSI engine has a capacity of 1.4-litres (1390 cc) and produces either 140 or 170 PS. The 170 PS version has the <b>...</b>
