Hiawatha Rag - Barber Chris 1990

Hiawatha Rag - Barber Chris 1990. November 2010. Over 350 000 of you have already seen the youtube postings on my Barber site, but with great pleasure I enclose Chris Barber's request. Have fun! Chris Barber. To:erwigfilms. Dear user, As the official representatives of Chris Barber and The Big Chris Barber Band, may we request that you include a link to the official Chris Barber Youtube channel in the description of your Chris Barber videos, and that you also include a link to Chris Barber's official webite. Please find these links below. Sincerely, BigChrisBarberBand. www.youtube.com www.chrisbarber.net In a reunion concert series to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary the Chris Barber Jazz Band plays Hiawatha Rag, a tune they had recorded in the mid fifties for the first time. Chris had found some of the former members of the band for this set of the concert. Trumpet/cornet player Pat Halcox is still in the band, former members are Monty Sunshine clarinet, Jim Bray bass and Colin Bowden drums. When I think of my early days of playing in the Netherlands I remember using this Barber arrangement for my own group. Then when I immigrated to Canada in 1966 and joined the Climax Jazz Band in 1971 I introduced almost this same arrangement there as well. I left Climax some 10 years ago, but I believe the band still plays it, and I'm sure in that same arrangement. It was one of our most requested tunes at the many festivals we played. Thank you Chris!

Coleridge-Taylor - Hiawatha's Wedding Feast (1/3)

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) Hiawatha's Wedding Feast Op. 30, No. 1 (1898) words by Longfellow The Royal Choral Society and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent Samuel Colerdge-Taylor was born in London, the son of an African doctor. His death at the age of 37 removed from the musical scene an important talent. His forte was choral writing, and it is on this that his reputation principally rests. Hiawatha's Wedding Feast is certainly his best loved work and its premiere in 1898 created a sensation. The simplicity of the setting, the strange Indian names and the British interest in the affairs of the American "savage", along with the fact that the poetic works of Henry Wordsworth Longfellow were very much in vogue, were all contributing factors in this deep impression. Later Taylor was to write two additional oratorios - The Death of Minnehaha Op. 30, No. 2 and Hiawatha's Departure Op. 30, No. 3 - which were almost equally popular. Indeed, at one time the Hiawatha Trilogy was performed at Royal Albert Hall with costumes and quite elaborate sets to enthusiastic crowds. This piece is in my opinion (bartje11's) more of historic interest than artistic, although the choral parts are extremely well written, and in such a way, that even an average amateur choir can do it justice. It gives a good idea what Victorian England around the turn of the century liked to hear.

HIAWATHA RAG - The Charlie McNair Skiffle Group

From a BELTONA '78' from the fifties. (BL2670) Not so much a skiffle group as a trad band! [I can't find any reference to Charlie McNair on t'internet. Does anyone know anything please?] The Olympian and the successor Olympian Hiawatha was a named passenger train operated by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (The Milwaukee Road) as train Nos. 15 and 16 from 1911 to 1961. Its route traversed the Milwaukee Road main line from Chicago, Illinois west to Seattle/Tacoma, Washington. The streamlined Olympian Hiawatha replaced the Milwaukee's heavyweight Olympian train in 1947. The train was designed by industrial designer Brooks Stevens and included the destinctive glassed-in "Skytop" observation-sleeping cars. In 1952 the Milwaukee Road added full-length "Super Dome" cars to the train.

And all along the highways and under the big western sky They're singing Ooo oooooo They're singing Wild Blue. And way out on the prairie and up in the high chaparral They hear a voice it says: Good evening This is Captain Midnight speaking And I've got a song for you Goes somethin like this: Starlight Starbright We're gonna hang some new stars in the heavens tonight. They're gonna circle by day They're gonna fly by night We're goin sky high. Yoo Hooooo hooo. Yeah yoo hooo Ooo Hooooooooo So good night ladies And good night gentlemen Keep those cards and letters coming And please don't call again. Geronimo and little Nancy Marilyn and John F. dancing Uncle took the message and it's written on the wall. These are pictures of the houses Shining in the midnight moonlight While the King sings Love Me Tender. "Hiawatha's Photographing" by Lewis Carroll (poetry reading)

Many of Lewis Carroll's parodies are so good that the originals are now forgotten. Hiawatha, though, is too robust for that. What this parody shows is that the verse form works even better as comedy. people.virginia.edu en.wikipedia.org "Lunar caustic" is silver nitrate. My only opportunity ever to use this nearly useless scap of knowledge - as useless as the little-known fact that most tortoises die of diphtheria - was when a Italian doctor was treating me for nosebleeds. First he put a solution of cocaine in my nose (disappointing, no pleasing side-effects) then he said he was going to cauterise the blood vessels with silver nitrate. "Ah, lunar caustic", I said brightly. He obviously had no clue what I meant so he formed the tentative conclusion that I was mad. That's what uncommon knowledge does for you. Eventually he said "For a few days, you gotta keepa you finga outta dere". "Like Ralph" I replied, but obviously he wasn't a Simpsons fan and that only made matters worse. He was glad to see the back of me. Appearing to be crazy can have benefits though. It discourages unwanted conversations. Find a few good phrases, such as "When is a mouse if it spins?" then triumphantly and loudly, "Because the higher it gets the lower!" That usually works. Or you might try "Did you ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?" It worked well enough for Popeye Doyle in The French Connection. . ask.metafilter.com Lewis Carroll was a pioneer of photography. Hiawatha halloween parade 2009

Halloween Frolic Oldest Parade in the Nation! The Halloween Frolic has been held annually on October 31st since 1914. In 1914, Mrs. John Krebs held a party for the Hiawatha children. In those first years, the youngsters dressed in costume and decorated their trikes and wagons....the first "floats". She entertained with awards and cookies for the little GHOSTS AND GOBLINS. Mrs. Krebs started a tradition that has been expanded on to include two big parades, numerous contests with trophies and cash prizes, and a Halloween Queen contest. The Kiddie Parade in the afternoon starts with hundreds of youngsters in costume. Prizes are awarded for best costumes, decorated bikes, trikes, wagons, family floats, small motorized vehicles and horses. The Grand Parade in the evening includes dignitaries such as the Governor of Kansas and other distinguished political leaders. High school bands, floats, horses, Shrine units and the ever-present natives in costume make the night parade something very special and the OLDEST IN THE NATION! There is no parade entry fee and everyone is welcome to participate. Entry forms are available from the Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce, 1711 Oregon, (785) 742-7136.

Hiawatha - The Iroquois Nation - The story that began Democracy

The story of how the Iroquois Nation came into being. The American Indians had such spirit and heart that it is still our major key frequency here in the US. Just a little look back on how greatness comes when the old is surrendered and the higher order of peace and unification takes over. I grew up in this part of the country and my dear father hiked us up the Mohawk trail every year, though our bloodline is much watered down from our American Indian Ancestors - our hearts hold true.
