This video is for people with the Gigabyte Z68 chipset motherboards (mb) that has the micro SATA connector onboard: • GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD (bundled, great price if you get one) • GA-Z68XP-UD3 • GA-Z68XP-D3 • GA-Z68AP-D3 • GA-Z68P-DS3 All the information you need for DIY install Intel's 311 mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD) enabling Intel's Smart Response Technology (iSRT). Kudos to Gigabyte's Global Technical Service who outlined most of the steps, before downloading the essential EZ Smart Response utility from Gigabyte's website. Gigabytes launch of its Z68 motherboards enabled iSRT which allows people to use lower capacity SSD as well as a traditional HD to get complete system wide performance as if they were using a higher capacity SSD. MicroCenter technicians let me watch them do it the old fashioned way. Well, Gigabyte's EZ Smart Response (EZSR) utility makes it simpler (not simple) and faster for DIY. I wasn't lucky enough to get the iSSD bundled, so I purchased the Intel 311 through Amazon. What makes the standard installation complicated, without the EZSR utility, is that the BIOS must be set up in RAID mode before installing the operating system (OS), and when finished the BIOS will be set in IDE mode. The EZSR utility does it all, after you select optimize the BIOS for IDE, and install the OS. Today (or last week) i take a look at Gigabytes relatively new Mid (ish) range motherboard. Not really a review but i can say this. I now have a new gaming system running around this mobo, and it fired up flawlessly on my first try. Using the BIOS was very simple, and my 8gb memory all showed up! Tech 101: What are MB, GB, and TB? - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. The difference between a kilobyte, which is KB, a megabyte which is MB, a gigabyte which is GB and a terabyte which is TB is size and nothing more. A kilobyte, KB, is a 1000 bytes. Bytes are pieces of information and a file is made up of bytes. A three page word document is approximately 30 kilobytes or 3000 bytes. A megabyte is a 1000 kilobytes. A gigabyte is a 1000 megabytes. And a terabyte is a 1000 gigabytes. Now what does that mean? Not much. The only time this becomes really important is when you are trying to back things up or move them. Your hard drives on today's computers are enormous. You generally see 320 gigabyte or 500 gigabyte or even now, a terabyte of hard drive space. But when you are trying to move those files somewhere else, that is when it becomes important. Again, a three page document has approximately 30 kilobytes. A photograph, taken at high resolution, is anywhere from one to three megabytes. A song, a music file, can be anywhere from two to six or eight megabytes. This is me flashing my BIOS with a Gigabyte P55-UD4P motherboard using the Q-flash utility which comes on Gigabyte motherboards. I looked for a video on Q-flash I could use for a reference and could not find one so, I made one. I am not an expert. Use this information at your own risk. Do not flash your BIOS for no reason, it can ruin your board if you don't do it correctly. I don't claim this information is all correct. This method worked for me. I made this to help people and so I could look at it in the future. Please do not contact me about this information. I will not give any advice about flashing your machine so please don't ask. (Sorry for the audio & poor video quality. Captured it with my digital camera & it didn't auto focus and came out a bit dark. Also the system isn't as loud as it seems in this video...cheap mic on my digital camera) Gigabyte redesigned the PCB (circuit board) for their new GTX 470 SOC (GV-N470SO-13I) and have tackled the heat, power consumption & noise issues that other 470/480's are known for. Great results have.....resulted. It draws less power than a standard GTX 470 even though it's over-clocked, doesn't put out as much heat and the 3 fans are super quiet even when setting them at high RPM's. (the loud fans that you hear are the case fans NOT the video card fans...5 case fans on high setting) This video card is longer than the standard GTX 470. It is 11 inches long or 27.94 centimeters. The green lights shows the voltage load of the card. As the GTX 470 SOC uses more power the green LED lights make their way across the back of the card. For some reason in Windows 7 all the green lights are always on despite the voltage load. With XP it works fine. No biggie and should be worked our with future updates. Stock settings are: Core 700MHz / Shader 1400MHz / Memory 3348MHz / .987v My OC Settings are: Core 845MHz / Shader 1690MHz / Memory 3900MHz / 1.030v ( screenshot bit.ly ) ( I use MSI's Afterburner for overclocking bit.ly ) Good job Gigabyte! Under the hood of this multitouch capacitive 1024 x 600 resolution display are an Atom N550 dual core CPU, a 320 GB hard drive, SD card slot, a speedy USB 3.0 and a VGA out port. You don't see many tablets with VGA as most are opting for HDMI, but I guess if you're looking to hook this up to an external monitor in the business world VGA is still pretty common. This tablet is being pushed forward as a business tablet, something along the lines of the HP Slate, which we know only sold around 6000 units. Looks at the hardware design we can see that the screen already sports Android navigation buttons. This is a little confusing since the only timelines Gigabyte can hope to follow at this point for Android would be Honeycomb and Android 3.0 is not meant to need these navigation buttons. Similarly for navigating around Windows they have included a mouse pointer as well as a left and right mouse buttons. I hope that they are planning on dropping the profile of the device in the next build as it is a little thick for my liking. We have no word on pricing but availability for the tablet should be in March just in time for honeycomb.

This Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 board was purchased to go into that case along with some new and some re-used parts from my current P67 build. I plan on using the Intel core I5 2500k processor, 16GB of G.Skill DDR3 ram (4x4gb), a 120GB OCZ vertex drive (that has treated me well so far) and an Asus Nvidia GTX 570 with this board. You can expect some videos in the near future with more details on that build, it's components, and probably another time lapse video of the system build.

A unique feature of this board is the mSATA bracket (physically a mini PCIe connector, wired for SATA) below the CPU socket that can be used to mount a teeny-tiny mSATA SSD. Doing a mild overclock of the i7 860 with a Gigabyte P55-UD4P motherboard. I'm not an expert so don't touch your BIOS if you don't know what you're doing. I did this video because I like watching them and if you have the same setup or similar you can use this to get a little more out of your hardware. This is just one way of doing it. I don't claim it's the best way. Use this how you will. BTW - I have used this to go up to 3.8 stable on prime95 for 12 hours
