I've decided to start working through the GT-Rank now the mods out, only I'm trying to get negative while not using the obvious 'strong' cars for each circuit. This is the onboard from my current PB at Spa in the MkIV GT40. It's a little heavy and cumbersome but there's something I really like about the way it handles - It's very easy to set up and hold in a drift through most corners. There's also something almost physically lazy about the car, the revs take their own sweet time working up and down the range, braking, and even direction changes can't be rushed either. Of course the trick to driving it is making it drift to the trajectory YOU want it to without 'fighting' it (Hence my missed apex the corner before Le Carriere, and the slightly slower than optimal line through Le Carriere itself, but when you get it right it's incredibly rewarding. Laptime was a 3:30.089 - Par for the course being 3:35.6, so a nice 5 seconds+ into the green :)

Continuing with my odd way to go negative, we now visit sunny Florida and a nice oval based circuit in Daytona Beach. As approximatly half the lap is done at full throttle without lifting this struck me as the ideal stomping ground for the underpowered Porsche 910 with it's whopping 2.2l flat 8. It was obvious before the circuit had even loaded that the only way to negative with the 910 would involve getting the tight infield section mastered. After putting my first serious run in at 1:56 I found myself questioning my choice of chariot, is the 910 perhaps too fast for my silly challenge? No - as it turned it wasn't. The 910 was happily lapping steadily between 1:55.3 and 1:56 very consistently while I drove it in the 'gentler' fashion I'd had to adopt with the 2F and the MkIV previously, but seemed reluctant to go any faster without fiercer input. While it was clear the car was capable of a sub 1:55 (The target time) driven in this manner it was a case of 'only just' and only on a perfect lap. So I started to see how far it could be thrown and if that'd make it lap faster... The result was a series of laps similar to and eventually culminating in the vid above as I learnt which corners needed a 'softly softly' approach and which require liberal armfulls of opposite lock and shouting : ) There is still room for improvements in the lap above as I was driving conservatively due to a few spins and moments running wide out of the horseshoes, but with a fastest lap of 1:53.9 I <b>...</b>

Continuing my GT-Rank the hard way theme we now have the Chaparral 2F at Brands hatch. Compared the the MkIV at Spa the 2F is a much more agile, even twitchy car. Some of this is due to the setup - I still havn't quite fine-tuned it - and some to my unfamilirarity with the car. The power and acceleration combined with this twitchyness make for a hard job out of corners as you can see watching the wheel, this is despite only having 3 gears! Lap time is 1:35.96
