Goodbye, Lokomotiv! Video of heartbreaking farewell ceremony on ice
A heart-stirring requiem mass has taken place at the Minsk ice hockey arena, where this evening local side Dynamo were supposed to take on Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, the team which tragically died in Wednesday's plane crash. All tickets for the game had been sold long before the tragedy. Soon after the sad news spread worldwide, the game's organizers decided to arrange a mass at the arena, honoring the legacy of the team. Not a single ticket had been returned as the ceremony was held in the packed arena. Each spectator brought flowers. All the Belarusian leadership, including President Aleksandr Lukashenko, were present at the event. Never was the arena that silent as 37 huge portraits of the players and staff were placed on the ice. A requiem mass was performed by an orchestra, while portraits of the departed Yaroslavl friends and icons appeared on the scoreboard. Each picture was met with a storm of applause, after which the Dynamo players scored a puck each in their own net. Similar ceremonies were held on Thursday evening in a dozen Russian and CIS cities. The jumper is being circled by the four PT-17 Stearmans of the Red Baron Squadron, and as he makes his decent upon Rickenbacker International Airport, a flight of three P-51 Mustangs makes a pass down the show line (behind the flag) to help open up the Friday show. The opening ceremony of the XXVII. Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney set a new standard for the Olympic opening ceremony. It is still considered the best opening ceremony ever. 120 000 spectators and more than 12000 performers were involved in the nearly 5-hour show. The artistic director of the show, David Atkins was the only member of the organizing team of the Games in Sydney with the gold pin of the International Olympic Committee signed off. 2006 David Atkins produced his partner Ignatius Jones and its major events company the Opening and Closing Ceremony 15th Asian Games in Doha (Qatar). The two Olympic ceremonies of the Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, was designed by David Atkins Enterprises, developed and produced. David Atkins is now the leading producer of major events worldwide. The opening ceremony began with 120 stockmen and their Stock Horses. The stockmen are the Australian version of the Cowboys. They carried the Olympic flag and rode to the music of "The Man from Snowy River". "The Man from Snowy River" is a famous Australian poem by Banjo Petersen, who also wrote the text for Australia's unofficial national anthem "Waltzing Matilda". The poem was the inspiration for the eponymous Australian feature film. The music was composed by Bruce Rowland. The morning ceremony is the first of the two important ceremonies (morning & evening) in Buddhist monastic life. The morning ceremony takes place before dawn when the environment is quiet and peaceful. This is an ideal time to clear the mind for cultivation and for reflection on the inner self. The ceremony consists of reciting the Incense Praise, the Shurangama Mantra, the Heart Sutra, the Buddha Praise & recitation of the Buddha's name, making the vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, taking refuge in the Triple Jewels, singing the Wei-Tuo Bodhisattva Praise and the Sri Maha Devi Dharani.
