Asus 1000HE Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1
This is a video screen capture of the Asus 1000HE running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Snow Leopard runs surprisingly well on this little netbook. Here's what's demoed in order: The Intel Atom processor is correctly identified in 'About This Mac' as the Atom N270 processor running at 1.6GHz. Function keys for the volume controls were added thanks to a hotkey program. These work by pressing Ctrl+F12 for volume up, Ctrl+F11 for volume down and Ctrl+F10 to toggle mute. (Note other function keys not demoed are activated by Fn+Key for the brightness up/down and sleep functions.) The software and features of 10.6 run great, such as Safari, QuickTime Player X and Time Machine. Here Time Machine is put through its paces to restore a deleted file from a previous backup. Also installed is Sun VirtualBox running a virtualised copy of Windows XP Home. Windows XP runs very well, VirtualBox can run it in windowed, full screen or seemless mode, additionally copy and paste between Mac OS and Windows is available, as is folder sharing between Host and Virtual OS's. Lastly Photo Booth is shown to be working with the built-in webcam. The hardware features of the Asus 1000HE running Snow Leopard are also working, such as wifi (with the help of Ralink's wifi utility), Bluetooth, sound, sleep and ethernet. Battery charging within Mac OS X works just like a regular Mac, the battery indicator recognises when AC power is plugged in and calculates accurately remaining battery life and charge time.

Asus Eee PC 1000HE Netbook - Dining Room Table Reviews
Review of the Asus Eee PC 1000HE netbook computer from my dining room table. Includes a comparison with the 900HA. The review of the 900HA can be found at www.youtube.com . A note about the 8.9" models being discontinued. After reading many contradictory reports, it appears Asus is NOT discontinuing the 8.9" models. However, the 8.9" size will eventually be marketed to developing nations and to the industry sector. So even though the 8.9" Asus netbook size should still be available for a while, It could still become no longer available in your area. A couple of technical rants. First, I'm not happy with the sound quality of my narration. I've been experimenting with different settings on my mixer during the last few videos, and have discovered that YouTube's audio converters tend to occasionally over-emphasize the low end. So even if my voice sounds perfectly all right on my copy of this video (including the slight emphasis I've added to the low end), YouTube's encoder pushed it a bit too close to Isaac Hayes territory. And it's also distorted! Second, even though my YouTube video has nearly all of the contrast and detail from the original video, the frame rate is all over the place! I've been uploading 960x540 resolution XviD encoded material as a test. This format preserves the most detail from the original 1440x1080i HDV material, but with none of the deinterlacing issues (combing, softness, low contrast). Windows 7 on the 1000HE
*Backup everything important just in case Windows 7 has issues backing up your stuff (Should work though)**Download the latest BIOS (before you install Windows 7 RC) and upgrade using Asus Update. Get the BIOS here: support.asus.com (found under bios).* Read this guide to install Windows 7: www.geek.com I recommend using 7-Zip instead of WinRAR, but either one will do. When installing Win 7 just use the C: partition unless you know what you are doing. Win 7 should back up your Windows XP files. Installation of Win 7 takes about an hour. After you got Win 7 up and running, there's a few drivers you need to get. Get them here: support.asus.com (put your model number in and chose WinXP!) Get all of these: -Super Hybrid Engine (Found under utilities) -ACPI Drivers (Found under ATK section) -Touchpad Drivers (Found under Touchpad) If any of these installs don't work, run them in compatibility mode, by right clicking it and selecting properties. Then hit the compatibility tab and run it in XP compatibility mode for XP SP3. -Graphics Card Driver get that here: downloadcenter.intel.com (Yes it should be Vista!) NOTE: You will not be able to use 1024*768 compress or scroll. I don't know why, but I will update as soon as I find the solution. *NOTE* - You will not be able to boot Win XP anymore using this method. You will have access to your Win XP files though. That should get you up and running with Windows 7. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask and I will TRY <b>...</b>

After i got my 1000HE i started to get all the jucie from it. Just then i was able to play games such as Serious Sam II, Portal, Counter Strike Source and Half-Life 2. I installed Garry's Mod and played it at 20FPS-30FPS, on 1024X600 resolution and everything on Low at DX7.
